STORYDALE AVE
Storydale Ave is a series of 11 Still Life paintings installed throughout Tacony along Torresdale Ave, both on the street and inside businesses.
They are all interrelated with groupings and themes repeated several times in various ways. The imagery was derived from community responses and was created during multiple sessions of free public art events.
The objects in the Still Life paintings represent the interests, indulgences, memories, and ambitions of the neighborhood, all situated together on a large community table. The style is drawn from various art historical traditions: Florentine composition, Cezanne’s pictorial space, Philadelphia’s mural materials and engagement methods, and the most fresh and contemporary of all– drawing with kids at the Tacony Library and painting with neighbors in Disston Park, the Tacony Lab, and the Historical Society Garden.
The compositions contain the physical paintings made by the community, as well as their drawings faithfully reproduced in paint. There is a really fun mix of styles and wildly imaginative imagery. The paintings are playful, brimming with energy and ideas, and full of amazing details straight from the minds of Tacony’s neighbors, friends, and kids.
